Our Team

Walter Pacheco is Chairman of Kassai Capital, where he is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the firm. Kassai is part of the broader Gemcorp platform, with a particular focus on strengthening local capital markets and supporting private sector development in Angola. Born and raised in Angola, Walter has had a front-row seat to the country’s economic and financial evolution. He spent his formative years in Angola before continuing his education in Portugal and the UK, studying economics, management and international finance. After completing his studies, he returned to Angola, beginning a career that would place him at the centre of the country’s financial system and capital markets development, building deep institutional knowledge across the public and private sectors. Walter has held senior roles across Angola’s banking sector, financial regulator and Ministry of Finance. He served as Director-General of the Public Debt Management Unit at the Ministry of Finance, and later presided over BODIVA, the Angolan Stock Exchange, where he played a pivotal role in the establishment and development of the country’s capital markets infrastructure. Walter was invited to join the Kassai project to apply this experience to a new phase of market development: mobilising informed, local capital and helping domestic companies access long-term financing. Walter holds a degree in Economics and Management from the University of the West of England and a master’s degree in International Finance from the University of Sussex.
